- Dr. Frank Morales
Dr. Frank Morales (Sri Dharma Pravartaka Acharya) has been studying and practicing the ancient spiritual tradition of Hinduism for over 30 years. His interest in Hinduism began when he first read the Bhagavad Gita at the tender age of ten. A philosophically inquisitive child, Dr. Morales began reading a vast number of books relating to Hindu spirituality. He also proceeded to practice various forms of Yoga, pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation. After living the life of a celibate Hindu monk for six years, Dr. Morales was initiated as a brahmana (a Hindu priest) in 1986. His Sanskrit name is Sri Dharma Pravartaka Acharya.
Dr. Morales earned both a Doctorate and a Masters degree in Languages and Cultures of Asia from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Previously, Dr. Morales earned a B.A. in Philosophy and Theology from Loyola University Chicago. His fields of expertise include Philosophy of Religion, Hindu Studies, Sanskrit, History of Religion, Comparative Theology, Contemporary South Asian Politics, and the interface between Hinduism and modernity.
Dr. Morales is currently recognized as one of the nation’s leading authorities on Hindu philosophy and religion, as well as South Asian studies. In addition to directing his own Hindu movement (The International Sanatana Dharma Society), Dr. Morales works in conjunction with several educational institutes and think tanks globally. Dr. Morales maintains a very demanding schedule consisting of lecturing, satsanghs, consulting and writing. Dr. Morales has been a guest lecturer at over two dozen major universities throughout the USA, including Cornell, Northwestern, Rutgers, Harvard, Columbia, and the University of Virginia. In addition, Dr. Morales has served as a South Asian affairs consultant for such corporations as Ford Motor Company, Lucent Technologies, Goodwin Procter Law Firm, and the Global Health Corporation. His first book, “Experiencing Truth: The Vedic Way of Knowing God”, is scheduled for publication in 2007.
In addition to his academic duties, Dr. Morales has been a practicing orthodox Hindu for 30 years, and is an ordained Hindu priest and Acharya (spiritual teacher, preceptor and guru). President/Acharya of the International Sanatana Dharma Society, he is a recognized Hindu Acharya (spiritual teacher). The practice and teaching of Dharma, Yoga spirituality, and meditation are of central importance in his life.
